Melbourne Cup

The Melbourne Cup is the biggest annual horse race held on Flemington Racecourse, this famous horse race starts at 15:00h on the first Tuesday of every November. This is the most eagerly-awaited Tuesday for every Australian and this day is also a public holiday.

This year (2010) the prize money of this famous Cup is an astonishing $6 Million!

The entry fees for every horseman is $600 per horse and there are generally 400 horses nominated at this annual event, however the final field is only limited to 24 starters therefore to be allocate the owner of each horse first needs to pay the acceptance fees that starts from $960, second acceptance is $1,450 and third acceptance is $2,420. The final acceptance fee is $45,375. Should a horse be balloted out of the final field, the final declaration fee is refunded.
